Wike Criticizes Fubara’s Letter to Rivers Assembly, Calls It ‘Useless’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has strongly criticized Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his recent letter to the state House of Assembly, describing it as a “useless” approach to resolving the state’s political crisis.

Fubara’s letter sought to initiate discussions with lawmakers following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the political situation in Rivers State. However, speaking at a media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike dismissed the move, insisting that Speaker Martins Amaewhule and other lawmakers are independent and should not be treated as subordinates.

“You have had a frosty relationship with a branch of government. If you are a good politician, would you write a letter? Is it by sending a letter signed by the SSG? What an insult! This isn’t how it should be done,” Wike said.

‘A Political Misstep’

The FCT Minister argued that Fubara should have personally reached out to Speaker Amaewhule and his team instead of making a public spectacle by sending an official letter.

He accused the governor of engaging in political theatrics rather than taking sincere steps toward reconciliation.

‘Justice Before Peace’

When asked about restoring peace in Rivers State, Wike insisted that peace could only be achieved through proper governance and adherence to due process.

“What is more important than ensuring the right things are done? When justice is served, peace follows. But if the right thing isn’t addressed, how can we talk about peace? Go present the budget; submit the list of commissioners,” he added.

As political tensions in Rivers State persist, Wike’s remarks highlight the deep divisions within the state’s leadership and the ongoing struggle for political control.
