The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, has declared his unwavering commitment to enhancing security measures and advancing infrastructure development for the residents of Abuja.
This commitment was made evident during a press briefing convened after a closed-door session with Senators at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday. The session, organized by the Senate, provided a platform for the Minister and the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, to address lawmakers on the strategies implemented to ensure the safety of FCT residents.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, Wike reiterated that Senators acknowledged a notable improvement in security within the FCT.
“I am glad they are all happy with what we have done, what we are going to be doing, and they provided some suggestions on ways forward,” stated Wike.
Emphasizing upcoming initiatives, Wike underscored the importance of improved security and increased infrastructure. He highlighted ongoing construction projects within the FCT, signaling a commitment to further development.
Furthermore, Wike acknowledged recent administrative advancements within the FCT, emphasizing the positive impact on residents.
Addressing concerns over recent kidnapping incidents, Wike shed light on the complex nature of these crimes, stating, “Most of the kidnapping stories you hear, some of them are stage-managed by people. There are some internal arrangements.”
In response to these challenges, Wike assured the public of proactive measures, stating, “What we can do is to ensure that the person that is kidnapped is released.”
Additionally, Wike announced the successful apprehension of two notorious kidnappers operating in the FCT, contributing to a decrease in kidnapping incidents.
While recognizing the need for continuous improvement, Wike reiterated ongoing efforts to enhance security and serve the community. “We are not saying we have gotten to where we want to be, but we are doing a lot and people should acknowledge that what used to be is not what we are seeing now,” he emphasized.
In conclusion, Wike reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding residents, acknowledging the inevitability of some level of criminal activity. “We will continue to do our best to ensure that we provide the best to our people,” he affirmed.
