Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has brokered a truce between Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, warning their supporters to end hostilities or risk undermining the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The reconciliation meeting, held in Abuja on Wednesday, lasted about two hours, providing an opportunity for the two influential APC chieftains to address their differences and work towards renewed cooperation.
The intervention comes amid efforts by the Kano APC to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections, with concerns that prolonged internal disagreements could weaken the party’s electoral chances.
In a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf urged the two lawmakers and their supporters to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.
The governor specifically warned against insults, inflammatory statements and other actions capable of reopening old wounds between the two camps.
“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distractions,” Yusuf said.
He urged Barau and Bichi to place the collective interest of the APC above personal grievances, stressing that unity, mutual understanding and discipline were essential for the party to achieve its objectives in the forthcoming elections.
Yusuf noted that disagreements were inevitable in democratic politics but warned that such differences must not be allowed to degenerate into divisions capable of weakening the party.
He also called on both camps to close ranks and work towards the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kano State Government and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, the reconciliation had the endorsement of President Tinubu, while Yusuf assured the President, the APC national leadership and other stakeholders of the party’s determination to secure victory across Kano State.
“APC is set to win all elective positions in Kano come 2027 by God’s Grace,” the governor declared.
In their separate remarks, Barau and Bichi appealed to their supporters to desist from actions capable of reigniting their disagreement.
The lawmakers also reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and expressed appreciation to Yusuf for intervening in the dispute and facilitating the reconciliation.
The truce is expected to strengthen efforts to foster cooperation among influential party stakeholders as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections.
