2027: APM Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Hijack Millions of PVCs

The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO) has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hand over millions of unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The campaign organisation, in a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, called on INEC to investigate the allegation and publicly disclose the number, location and security arrangements for uncollected PVCs nationwide.

It warned that any compromise in the handling of the cards could undermine public confidence in the electoral process and threaten the credibility of the 2027 elections.

According to the organisation, there are also allegations that compromised electoral officials could facilitate the entry of unregistered persons into polling units, using unclaimed PVCs to manipulate election outcomes in areas allegedly targeted by the APC.

The campaign described the claims as serious, insisting that INEC must demonstrate that effective safeguards are in place to protect the voters’ register and electoral materials.

“An unclaimed PVC must neither be a disposable property nor a political asset to the enemies of credible elections,” the organisation said, stressing that the cards must remain under strict control.

The MDPCO, which is campaigning for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and his running mate, Alhaji Lawal Musa Daura, also accused the ruling APC of allegedly seeking ways to compromise the electoral process amid what it described as growing support for its candidates.

However, the organisation did not provide evidence to substantiate the alleged plot in its statement.

It described the alleged plan as “dead-on-arrival,” maintaining that Nigerians would resist any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

The campaign urged INEC to restore public confidence by providing a comprehensive account of the custody, security and number of unclaimed PVCs across the country.

Specifically, it demanded that the electoral commission publish a state-by-state breakdown of uncollected voter cards in its custody and disclose the measures in place to prevent their unauthorised access, collection or transfer.

The organisation further called on INEC to assure Nigerians that only duly registered and legally qualified voters would be allowed to cast ballots during the 2027 elections.

It also urged citizens to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process, monitor activities around their polling units and report suspicious conduct to security agencies and accredited election observers.

International election observers were equally urged to take note of the allegations and seek assurances from INEC regarding the security of unclaimed PVCs and other electoral materials.

According to the campaign, the credibility of the 2027 elections would depend not only on activities on election day but also on the integrity of the voters’ register and the security of electoral materials before voting begins.

“Nigerians do not need post-election explanations; they deserve pre-election transparency,” the organisation said, calling on INEC to move beyond assurances and adopt concrete measures to guarantee free, fair and credible elections.

The MDPCO maintained that the presidential election must protect the legitimate votes of Nigerians and prevent any attempt to manipulate the outcome.

It warned that public confidence in the electoral process would be undermined if the final results failed to reflect the genuine choices of eligible voters.

The allegations remain claims by the campaign organisation; no evidence establishing the alleged plot was provided in the statement.
