The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has assured Nigerians that its candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would run a presidency that is physically present and responsive to the needs of Nigerians if elected in 2027.
Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), led by Francis Eburuwe.
Ologbondiyan said Atiku understood the economic and social challenges facing the country and had proposed measures aimed at addressing them.
He cited Atiku’s position during the 2023 presidential campaign on fuel subsidy removal, saying the former vice president had advocated a phased approach to cushion its impact on Nigerians.
According to him, Nigeria requires a presidency that is accessible and able to respond promptly to economic, security and social challenges.
“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance.
“Nigeria cannot afford a situation in which there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments. The country requires firm and focused leadership,” Ologbondiyan said.
He said the ADC candidate’s proposed approach would place emphasis on the economy, citizens’ welfare and public confidence in government institutions.
Ologbondiyan also referenced Atiku’s recent economic proposals, including a production-based intervention for locally refined petroleum products, subject to spending limits, National Assembly approval and independent audits.
Earlier, Eburuwe said the Atiku Unity Movement remained committed to mobilising support for the ADC candidate across the country.
He said the movement would take Atiku’s message to Nigerians at the grassroots and continue its campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC has also recently unveiled its national campaign structure, with Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
