2027: Atiku’ll Restore Fuel Subsidy, Unite Nigeria, ADC-PCC Assures

The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has promised that its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will restore fuel subsidy under a transparent framework if elected president in 2027, while accusing President Bola Tinubu’s administration of promoting sectionalism and division.

The campaign council said an Atiku-led government would prioritise national unity, economic recovery and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, insisting that the former vice-president offered a better alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this in Abuja at the weekend when he received the leadership of the Grassroots Mobilisation Network (GMN), led by its National Coordinator, Engr. Sadiq Abubakar Adamu Lwafu.

Ologbondiyan accused the Tinubu administration of pursuing policies and making appointments that, according to him, reflected ethnic and regional bias.

“In the last three years, Tinubu has shown clannishness in governance. His appointments, his policies, his body language—everything screams sectionalism and exclusion,” he said.

He described Atiku as a leader whose personal, business and political relationships cut across Nigeria’s ethnic, religious and regional divides, arguing that his leadership could foster national cohesion.

“Atiku Abubakar, on the other hand, is a natural Nigerian devoid of ethnic, religious or sectional inclination. He is a leader for all tribes and regions,” Ologbondiyan added.

The ADC-PCC spokesman further accused the APC of exploiting the country’s ethnic and religious differences to retain political power, rather than addressing the economic hardship confronting citizens.

“The APC has so much capitalised on our fault lines to divide the country. They don’t care about the welfare of the people as far as they can remain in power,” he alleged.

Atiku’s Subsidy Promise

On the economy, Ologbondiyan said Atiku had a plan to address the country’s challenges, including restoring fuel subsidy through a transparent and properly managed arrangement.

According to him, the proposed framework would protect vulnerable Nigerians while supporting domestic production and economic activities.

“Atiku is going to bring back subsidy in a transparent and well-managed manner that will directly benefit the poor and stimulate production,” he said.

He maintained that the ADC candidate’s economic proposals would offer Nigerians an alternative to the policies of the current administration, which the council blamed for worsening living conditions.

GMN Mobilises For Atiku

Earlier, Lwafu said the GMN had commenced a nationwide mobilisation campaign to rally support for Atiku and work towards defeating the APC in the 2027 presidential election.

He criticised the Tinubu administration over the rising cost of living, insecurity and what he described as a shrinking democratic space.

“President Tinubu’s administration has made life so difficult for Nigerians. The hardship is too much. Nigerians are now living in fear of insecurity,” Lwafu said.

He also expressed concern about the state of the country’s democratic institutions, alleging that pressure on democratic safeguards and the concentration of political power could threaten national stability.

Lwafu described the ADC as a credible political platform bringing together experienced politicians and individuals committed to national development.

Among those he cited as reflecting the party’s political strength were its National Chairman, David Mark; Atiku; former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi; former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola; Aminu Tambuwal; Senator Austin Akobundu; Emeka Ihedioha; Kashim Ibrahim-Imam; Ralph Nwosu; Dele Momodu and Dino Melaye.

He said the GMN would intensify its grassroots mobilisation across the country to secure votes for the ADC in the forthcoming election.

Ologbondiyan commended the group’s efforts and assured it of the campaign council’s readiness to work with grassroots organisations and other Nigerians seeking changes in governance.

He urged supporters to sustain their mobilisation, describing the 2027 election as an opportunity to improve public accountability, rebuild confidence in democratic governance and promote national unity.
