Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North against internal wrangling, urging them to bury their differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Barau, who is also First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, said internal divisions could weaken the party’s electoral chances and undermine the development gains recorded in Kano North.
He spoke on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving two delegations from Dambatta Local Government Area of Kano North Senatorial District at his National Assembly office.
The warning came against the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the APC primary election for the Dambatta/Makoda Federal Constituency.
One of the delegations was led by Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji, a former three-term member of the Kano State House of Assembly and former APC aspirant in the constituency.
Maidaji had challenged the outcome of the party’s primary election in court but later withdrew the case and pledged to work with the party.
Barau described the decision as a demonstration of political maturity and called on other party members with grievances to follow the same path.
“The decision by Hon. Hafiz Sani Maidaji to withdraw the case and continue to work with the party is a testament to the maturity and unity we must uphold,” Barau said.
The Deputy Senate President said members must place the collective interest of the APC above individual political ambitions, warning that disunity could give opponents an advantage in 2027.
He urged APC supporters in Kano North to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, himself and other party candidates in the forthcoming elections.
“I therefore appeal to all of us to remain united. Let us continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, myself as your Senator, and all candidates of the APC contesting the 2027 elections,” he said.
Barau said only a disciplined and united APC structure could guarantee electoral victory and protect the interests of the people of Kano North.
“With unity, loyalty, and collective commitment, we can achieve a more prosperous Kano North and a stronger Nigeria,” he added.
Meanwhile, the second delegation, led by Barau’s Senior Legislative Aide in Dambatta, Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Bayero, commended the senator for his projects and empowerment programmes across the district.
Responding, Barau promised to sustain his interventions in education, agriculture, infrastructure and economic empowerment.
He said his goal was to ensure that constituents became economically independent and had sustainable means of livelihood.
“Our objective is to ensure that every household in Kano North has something meaningful to do and that our people become economically independent,” he said.
Barau disclosed that 1,300 petty traders, artisans and other beneficiaries were receiving N100,000 monthly as start-up capital under his empowerment initiatives.
He also listed fertilisers, water pumps, grinding machines, sewing machines, motorcycles and refrigerators among items being distributed to constituents.
However, the senator stressed that the success of such development programmes would depend on political stability and unity within the APC.
He therefore urged party members to close ranks, insisting that the 2027 contest would require a united political machinery capable of defeating opponents and sustaining development in Kano North.
