2027: Iyaloja-General’s Movement Targets Market Women, Traders for Tinubu

The Iyaloja-General Movement for Renewed Hope Alliance (IGM) has unveiled plans for an aggressive nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign to rally market women, traders and community stakeholders in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

The newly appointed National General Secretary of the movement, Chief Mrs Obiageli Okwubanego, disclosed this following her appointment by the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Dr Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo.

Okwubanego said the movement would strengthen its national structures and deepen engagement with market associations, women’s groups, traders and other grassroots stakeholders to expand its mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

She made the commitment while expressing appreciation to Tinubu-Ojo for appointing her on Thursday, October 22, 2026, describing the gesture as a demonstration of confidence in her leadership capacity, administrative experience and commitment to service.

The new secretary-general pledged to bring dedication, professionalism and accountability to the assignment, assuring the Iyaloja-General that she would justify the confidence reposed in her.

She also commended Tinubu-Ojo for her commitment to grassroots organisation and women’s empowerment, saying her leadership had continued to create opportunities for women to participate in leadership, political engagement and national development.

According to Okwubanego, her immediate priority would be to strengthen the movement’s national secretariat, improve administrative efficiency and establish effective communication channels across its national, state and grassroots structures.

She said she would work closely with the National Director-General of IGM, Dr Nasiru Ladan, members of the National Working Committee and state coordinators to build a united, effective and well-coordinated organisation capable of achieving its objectives.

Okwubanego stressed that market leaders, traders, women’s associations and community stakeholders would be central to the movement’s grassroots mobilisation strategy.

She urged Nigerians, particularly women, market leaders and traders, to participate actively in the democratic process and engage constructively in decisions that would shape the country’s political and economic future.

The new National General Secretary said the movement, under Tinubu-Ojo’s leadership, would continue to provide a platform for stakeholder engagement, civic participation and the articulation of grassroots interests, while pursuing its objective of mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

She further called on members of the National Working Committee, state coordinators and other stakeholders to close ranks, embrace unity and work collectively towards building a formidable nationwide political mobilisation structure.

Okwubanego, popularly known as Oby Okeke-Okwubanego or Madam Obby, is a businesswoman, real estate developer and public official with experience in both the private and public sectors.

She currently serves as Senior Special Assistant to Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Tax and Investment Mobilisation, where she facilitates engagements between investors and the state government, particularly in investment promotion, diaspora investment and economic development.

Her professional engagements have included coordinating town hall meetings and investment-focused policy forums for Anambra indigenes in Lagos and Abuja to promote investment opportunities in the state.

She has also represented the Anambra State Government at international business engagements, including the India-Nigeria Business Forum, where she advocated partnerships and investment opportunities in critical sectors such as healthcare and education.

Her appointment comes as the IGM seeks to expand its nationwide presence and strengthen coordination among its various structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reaffirming her commitment to the assignment, Okwubanego assured Tinubu-Ojo that she would not take the confidence reposed in her for granted.

She said her tenure would be guided by accountability, inclusiveness, commitment and effective service delivery, with particular emphasis on strengthening the movement’s grassroots presence and ensuring effective coordination of its administrative and mobilisation activities.
