The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Mariya Mahmoud, has charged women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the nation’s capital to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation to secure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and the victory of the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Mahmoud also called for reconciliation among aggrieved party members, saying the APC must close ranks and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the polls.
The minister gave the charge when she received the FCT APC Woman Leader, Hajia Farida Odangi Suleiman, and members of her executive committee on a courtesy visit to her office in Abuja.
She said her office was ready to work with the party’s women leadership to ensure that women across the FCT, irrespective of political affiliation, were carried along in efforts to strengthen the party.
Mahmoud said the APC already possessed the capacity, commitment and zeal required to deliver victory for President Tinubu but stressed that greater mobilisation, empowerment and inclusive engagement were needed.
She said women remained critical to the party’s success and urged APC women leaders at all levels to deploy their experience and grassroots networks towards building a stronger and more united party.
“We have the capacity, commitment and zeal to deliver victory. What is required is greater grassroots mobilisation, empowerment and inclusive engagement,” she said.
Mahmoud said the transformation taking place in the FCT under the Tinubu administration, with the support of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, was visible in infrastructure development and other sectors.
She, however, stressed that more attention must be given to improving the lives of residents across the six Area Councils.
The minister also called for a conciliation mechanism to bring back party members who may feel alienated or abandoned.
According to her, the participation of women and their collaboration with men would be crucial to the implementation of the Renewed Hope agenda and the APC’s electoral success in 2027.
She urged the women leaders to intensify mobilisation across communities in the FCT and serve as “Torchbearers” for the President ahead of the elections.
On her part, Suleiman pledged the commitment of APC women across the FCT to mobilise massive support for Tinubu and all candidates of the party in the 2027 general elections.
She acknowledged the projects and interventions of the Tinubu administration in the FCT but warned that victory would not come automatically without deliberate grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with residents.
According to her, “all is not well politically,” stressing that party leaders must go beyond assumptions and take their campaign messages directly to communities across the Territory.
She called for regular town hall meetings, community engagements and greater empathy in communicating government policies to residents.
Suleiman assured Mahmoud of the readiness of FCT APC women to work under her leadership, describing the minister as a political leader with the capacity and integrity to lead the women to victory in 2027.
The highlight of the visit was the presentation of Tinubu “Torchbearers” to Mahmoud on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the APC National Women Leader.
The appointment is expected to strengthen mobilisation among women and other grassroots groups in the FCT as the APC begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.
