Presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has promised to “reset” Nigeria within four years if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Makinde, who is also the Governor of Oyo State, made the declaration on Monday at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
He said his proposed administration would introduce a new security architecture, reform the education sector, rebuild the economy through data, science and logic, and overhaul the country’s socio-political system.
Makinde also criticised the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government, saying Nigerians were experiencing hardship under the current administration.
He argued that the 2027 presidential election would be determined by voters rather than the financial resources available to political candidates.
“This 2027 election will not be determined by pundits. This election is not going to be determined by the number of billionaires you have in your corner, or how much billion you have to spend. This election will be determined by the people of Nigeria,” he said.
The APM candidate said sustainable development could only be achieved through issue-based politics and leadership committed to constitutional democracy.
He also promised to tackle the problem of out-of-school children through reliable data and targeted interventions as part of his proposed education reforms.
According to Makinde, his “Reset Nigeria” agenda would cover security, education, the economy and the socio-political environment within a four-year period.
“So, we can reset this country and give Nigeria a new security architecture, reset and give Nigeria a new path for education, reset our economy utilising data, science, and logic, and reset our socio-political environment in four years. That is our agenda,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in the 2027 election.
Also speaking, APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, described the country’s security challenges as worrisome.
Dantalle said the party would address kidnapping and banditry if Makinde is elected president, while urging voters in Nasarawa and other North-Central states to support the party’s candidate.
Earlier, the APM governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Senator Ogoshi Onawo, pledged to mobilise support for Makinde ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Onawo said the election should focus on issues concerning the development of Nigeria rather than political party interests.
“Your Excellency sir, as we support you, we are going to give you all we have to support you to become the next President of this country. We are going to join you to reset Nigeria,” he said.
