The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that no political party in Nigeria can match the ruling party’s political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda attributed the party’s strength to its over 261,000 executive members and the support of 31 governors, adding that two governors from other political parties were also backing its activities.
He spoke on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu/APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, APC governors and other party leaders attended the event.
Also present were the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, who belong to different political parties.
Addressing the gathering, Yilwatda said the presence of political figures across party lines demonstrated a shared commitment to securing a second term for Tinubu and Shettima.
“Your presence here makes our shared commitment as a party clear; we want a better country, supporting Mr President and Vice President to return for a second term.
“The atmosphere shows all kinds of victory even before the election,” he said.
The APC chairman also praised the Tinubu administration, claiming that its projects and achievements were visible and had made an impact on Nigerians.
“President Bola Tinubu has made tremendous progress over the last few years in projects that can be visibly seen, felt and touched,” Yilwatda said.
Reaffirming his confidence in the ruling party’s electoral strength, he said its extensive grassroots network and support from governors placed it ahead of its rivals.
“No political party has our structure; we have over 261,000 party exco members and 31 governors, with two other governors supporting from different parties,” he added.
The APC had earlier released a revised list of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, naming Tinubu as chairman, Shettima as first vice-chairman and Yilwatda as second vice-chairman.
Former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed director-general, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named secretary.
Wike was assigned to coordinate the campaign in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, while Adeleke and Soludo were designated coordinators for Osun and Anambra states, respectively.
The inclusion of the three politicians has attracted attention because Wike is associated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeleke with the Accord Party, and Soludo with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Their involvement highlights the cross-party support being mobilised for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are slated for February 6, 2027.
