KANO — Supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday staged a grassroots mobilisation in Madobi, the hometown of former Kano State governor and NDC vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with APC chieftain Dr Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso leading the gathering.
The mobilisation brought together women, youths and political stakeholders, including individuals from previously opposing political camps. Participants expressed support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, which INEC has scheduled for January 16, 2027.
Addressing the gathering, Musa Illiyasu said the significance of the mobilisation was the coming together of political groups that had competed against one another for decades. He described the development as a major realignment in the Madobi political landscape.
“Madobi zone has never seen a realignment movement like the one we are witnessing now. This is because we are now realigning with forces that fought us 28 years ago,” he said.
He recalled the longstanding political contests between the rival camps, noting that both sides had recorded victories at different times before deciding to work together in support of Tinubu.
Former House of Assembly member and grassroots politician, Habibu Hassan Elyakub, who participated in the mobilisation, said the alliance had expanded the local political structure backing the President.
Elyakub also pointed to Musa Illiyasu’s electoral record in Madobi, arguing that his repeated victories at the local government level demonstrated an established grassroots network.
“With this alliance, President Tinubu should go to sleep with his two eyes closed because it is as good as he has won,” Elyakub said.
He added that the group would work to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
Rabiu Kwankwaso is listed by INEC as the NDC vice-presidential candidate alongside Peter Obi for the 2027 presidential election, while Tinubu is the APC presidential candidate with Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
