“Nigeria Is Back on Global Map” — Akpabio Hails Tinubu at APC Convention

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has declared that Nigeria is steadily reclaiming its place on the global stage under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing sweeping economic reforms, infrastructure expansion and renewed political stability.

Akpabio made the remarks on Friday night at the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, where party leaders and supporters gathered to assess the administration’s progress and chart a course for the future.

In a speech that drew loud applause from party faithful, the Senate President attributed the growing influx of Nigerians into the APC to what he described as “visible good governance” under Tinubu.

“From removing subsidies, to harmonising multiple exchange rates, and reforms in the education sector, you have brought progress that is already opening up opportunities for Nigerians,” Akpabio said.

He pointed to major infrastructure gains across the country, particularly in road development and connectivity, which he said are beginning to transform economic activities.

“Today, people can travel more seamlessly from Lagos to Ibadan. Movement towards Ajaokuta has improved, and I have personally experienced the coastal roads in the Niger Delta—projects we only imagined decades ago,” he noted.

Akpabio praised Tinubu’s leadership style, describing him as a visionary leader whose reforms, though tough, are laying a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.

“In you, Mr. President, Nigeria has both sight and vision. Nigerians are yet to see the best of what you can offer. Despite the economic challenges, you are turning things around,” he said.

The Senate President also highlighted the growing political strength of the APC, revealing that the party currently controls 32 states, with prospects of further expansion ahead of future elections.

“Our party continues to grow stronger. By the next election cycle, we expect even more states to come on board,” he said.

On legislative-executive relations, Akpabio assured the President of the National Assembly’s continued support in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“When the National Assembly is aligned with the executive and committed to a common goal, progress becomes inevitable,” he added.

Addressing concerns over insecurity, Akpabio expressed optimism that the country is on the path to overcoming its security challenges.

“With the support of Nigerians, we will restore peace across the country. We are determined to secure not just the nation, but also unity within our great party,” he said.

He urged party members and Nigerians to remain united and supportive of the government, emphasizing that collective effort is key to sustaining progress.

As the APC prepares for future electoral contests, Akpabio’s remarks underscored a strong message of confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and a renewed commitment to national development.
