Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and PDP strongman, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has slammed former governors who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying they lacked the courage to stand firm when the party was in crisis.
Wike, speaking at the PDP National Convention held at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, did not mince words as he accused defectors of abandoning ship at the toughest moment.
“When crisis came, for them to show leadership, they ran away,” he fired. “That tells you those who can stand when there are crises.”
In a stinging comparison, Wike likened their actions to that of a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party Nigeria, whom he said failed to show leadership when faced with internal party troubles.
The outspoken minister insisted that real leaders don’t walk away from problems but confront them head-on, stressing that loyalty is proven in difficult times.
“When there are problems in your family, you don’t abandon it you stay and fix it,” he said.
Wike, however, hailed party members who refused to defect, praising them for standing strong and keeping the PDP alive through the storm.
He said their resilience has now paid off, as the party regroups and prepares for the next political battle ahead of 2027.
