FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has slashed Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees for the Nigerian Law School Abuja campus in Bwari and ordered urgent construction of staff housing to tackle worsening infrastructure gaps.
The tough-talking Minister made the bold move during a meeting with the school’s management, expressing shock that the institution had operated for years without proper land documentation.
He immediately directed that all C-of-O processing fees be waived and ordered that the certificate be ready within one week, insisting that government institutions must not operate without legal backing.
Wike didn’t stop there. He declared an “emergency” on staff accommodation, vowing that new quarters must be delivered without delay.
“Anything we can do to help our children, we will do it,” he said, stressing that improving the welfare of staff and students remains a top priority.
He revealed that 10 staff quarters are already completed and set for commissioning, with another 10 units approved to fast-track housing delivery.
To ease overcrowding, the Minister said new male and female hostels are underway, while funding has also been approved for a new auditorium—though he blasted the contractor for failing to move to site.
Wike also pushed for digitisation of the school’s operations, directing collaboration with FCT legal authorities to modernise its system.
The Minister said the intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader push to strengthen legal education and improve the welfare of judicial officers.
Earlier, the Law School’s Director-General, Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote, praised ongoing development strides in the FCT but raised concerns over infrastructure decay and overcrowding at the institution.
