The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, as its unopposed governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections following a unanimous endorsement by party stakeholders.
The declaration was made on Thursday at the APC State Secretariat in Minna by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Returning Officer, Alhaji Danlami Abubakar, who confirmed that no other aspirant contested for the ticket.
Bago, popularly known as the “Farmer Governor,” emerged as the sole candidate after no party member purchased nomination forms to challenge him, paving the way for a consensus adoption.
The motion for his endorsement was moved by Senator Mohammed Sani Musa (Niger East) and seconded by the Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Afiniki Dauda, with delegates from all 277 wards across the state backing the decision.
The party described the process as peaceful and reflective of unity within its ranks ahead of the 2027 elections.
In the same exercise, the APC conducted its State House of Assembly primaries, where consensus candidates emerged in 24 out of the 27 constituencies, while direct primaries were held in Bosso, Tafa and Suleja constituencies.
Winners also emerged from the National Assembly primaries conducted across the state for both Senate and House of Representatives seats.
Reacting to his emergence, Governor Bago expressed appreciation to party members for their overwhelming support, describing the endorsement as a sign of loyalty and confidence in his administration.
He also congratulated other candidates who emerged from the primaries and urged them to remain committed to the party’s collective success in the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the consensus candidacy places Bago in a strong position for re-election, as he seeks to consolidate ongoing reforms, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure development across the state.
