…Party Says Patriotic Nigerians Won’t Campaign for His Re-election, Backs Makinde
The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s newly unveiled 2027 campaign council as an “assembly of discredited yes men,” alleging that the team is dominated by political loyalists and individuals who, according to the party, lack the confidence of Nigerians.
The opposition party claimed that the composition of the council reinforced its position that the Tinubu administration would face serious difficulty convincing Nigerians to support its bid for a second term, citing what it described as the government’s poor performance in office.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM alleged that the campaign council was largely made up of political loyalists, inconsistent politicians and individuals who had switched political allegiances over time.
The party also faulted the appointment of former Zamfara State Governor, Abdul-Aziz Yari, as Director-General of the campaign council, alleging that his tenure as governor was marked by worsening insecurity, youth unemployment and other socioeconomic challenges.
The APM said the choice of campaign leadership raised questions about the administration’s assessment of its performance and its strategy for securing public support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to the party, after more than three years in office, an administration that had performed well should be able to assemble a campaign team capable of inspiring confidence among citizens.
The opposition party also accused the Tinubu administration of failing to adequately tackle insecurity, alleging that large numbers of Nigerians had been killed while millions had been abducted since the government assumed office.
It further criticised the administration’s economic policies, claiming that they had increased hardship, weakened productive sectors and contributed to rising poverty and unemployment.
The APM therefore questioned why, in its view, any patriotic Nigerian should campaign for the continuation of an administration it accused of failing to meet the expectations of citizens.
The party also urged members of the Tinubu campaign council to pay attention to the outcome of the recent Osun governorship election, describing the result as a warning ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
It argued that the Osun result demonstrated that political structures and campaign machinery alone could not guarantee electoral victory without corresponding public confidence and support.
The APM expressed confidence in its presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, describing him as a credible alternative capable of attracting support across the country.
The party said a Makinde administration would be anchored on a governance blueprint focused on security, inclusive human development, industrialisation, massive youth employment, infrastructure development, efficient public service and prudent management of public resources.
According to the APM, its proposed programme would prioritise the welfare of Nigerians while creating an environment for sustainable economic growth and prosperity.
The party urged Nigerians not to be distracted by the composition of the Tinubu campaign council but to look towards what it described as “a new beginning” under a Makinde/Daura presidency.
