BREAKING: Nollywood loses veteran actor Ogogo at 66

The veteran Yoruba actor reportedly died on Sunday after battling stage-four cancer.

His death came barely days after his family raised the alarm over his deteriorating health and appealed to medical experts and well-meaning Nigerians for assistance.

Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, reportedly confirmed the death during an emotional social media session, breaking down in tears as she announced that her father had passed away.

The development came less than a week after Kaira and her sister, Lima, disclosed that their father was battling stage-four cancer and sought urgent medical assistance for him.

The family had said they were looking for medical professionals and facilities capable of taking over his treatment after they were informed that chemotherapy could no longer be administered.

The actor’s health crisis had generated widespread concern among colleagues, fans and other Nigerians, with several entertainers rallying support for the veteran actor.

Ogogo was one of the prominent faces of Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades and appearances in hundreds of films.

His death is expected to leave a huge gap in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba cinema, where he built a reputation as a respected actor, producer and filmmaker.

The actor’s reported death also comes after earlier false reports of his demise were dismissed by members of his family, who had urged the public to disregard unverified information about his health.
