2027: Tinubu’s Campaign Council List Stands, More Names Coming – Presidency

Dare says adjustments, not overhaul, as APC prepares for 2027 battle

The Presidency has dismissed reports that the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election has been withdrawn, saying the list remains valid but will be adjusted to accommodate more party members and stakeholders.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made this known on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Dare explained that the campaign structure was still being completed, with several subcommittees yet to be constituted.

He said the creation of the subcommittees would provide opportunities for additional names to be included in the campaign structure.

“As it is with every other list, there’s room for subcommittees. Those subcommittees have not been formed, and so many other names will come into that subcommittee,” Dare said.

He insisted that the list had not been withdrawn, noting that the APC had already clarified the issue.

“So that list has not been withdrawn. The APC has issued a statement to that effect yesterday, that list stands.

“But of course, there will be adjustments. The list is not cast in stone, just like every other list,” he added.

The campaign council, announced over the weekend, has President Tinubu as chairman, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, were named vice chairmen.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdul’aziz Yari, was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named secretary.

Addressing speculation that the changes amounted to a review of the campaign council, Dare said the Presidency preferred to describe them as necessary adjustments rather than a wholesale restructuring.

“Not a review, just adjustments where necessary,” he said.

He explained that a review would imply a major overhaul of the existing structure, which was not the case.

“Review is wholesale, this is not wholesale,” Dare added.

According to him, the planned subcommittees will create room for more APC members and political stakeholders to participate in the campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
