KANO — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Faizu Alfindiki, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.
Alfindiki attributed the President’s chances to what he described as Tinubu’s strong political structure, incumbency advantage and achievements since assuming office.
Speaking with newsmen in Kano on Thursday, the APC chieftain said the 2027 election would be determined largely by performance rather than campaign rhetoric.
According to him, Nigerians would assess the Tinubu administration’s record against the alternatives presented by opposition parties before deciding who should lead the country.
“The 2027 election will not be about slogans alone. It will be about who has the experience, courage, structure and vision to move Nigeria forward,” he said.
Alfindiki said the APC’s expanding political network, coupled with Tinubu’s position as the incumbent President, gives the ruling party a significant advantage ahead of the election.
He also argued that divisions within the opposition camp could further improve Tinubu’s chances of securing re-election.
The APC stalwart defended the administration’s economic policies, saying Tinubu inherited an economy weighed down by deep-rooted structural challenges and opted to implement bold reforms rather than defer difficult decisions for political convenience.
He cited the removal of fuel subsidy, foreign exchange reforms, tax restructuring and efforts to increase government revenue as measures aimed at rebuilding the nation’s economic foundation.
“President Tinubu inherited an economy facing serious challenges. Instead of avoiding these problems, he confronted them directly,” Alfindiki stated.
The former council boss urged Nigerians to assess the administration from a long-term perspective, rather than judging its reforms solely by the immediate hardship associated with them.
He maintained that sustainable economic development requires patience, consistency and commitment to policy reforms.
Alfindiki further claimed that signs of economic recovery were beginning to emerge, adding that increased confidence from international financial institutions indicated improvements in Nigeria’s economic fundamentals.
He dismissed criticisms of the administration’s reforms as political propaganda, insisting that the government’s performance and policies would ultimately shape the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
