A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father and writing the ongoing Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) promotion examination on his behalf.
Monsuru was caught on Wednesday, the third day of the examination, at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, where the examination was being conducted.
The suspect reportedly confessed that his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service, was sick and had directed him to sit for the examination on his behalf.
Security personnel deployed following the directive of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, reportedly detected the alleged impersonation and apprehended Monsuru.
During interrogation, the 33-year-old was asked about his father’s age and claimed that he was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, Musa Mohammed reportedly gave a different account, stating that he would be 60 years old by February 2027.
Further questioning revealed that the father said he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.
The conflicting information has raised further questions as the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation.
Both father and son were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The incident occurred as the FCT Civil Service Commission conducts its 2026 promotion examination for civil servants across the Federal Capital Territory.
