2027: Tambuwal Fires Back at Defection Rumours, Insists ‘I’m Staying in ADC’

Describes reports as false, baseless

Former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has dismissed reports circulating on social media that he plans to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as false and baseless.

The denial was contained in a statement issued by the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (AWT) Media Office, which urged the public to disregard the reports and avoid presenting speculation as fact.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Tambuwal has no plans to join the APC. Suggestions to the contrary are false, baseless and should be disregarded,” the statement said.

The media office explained that Tambuwal’s friendships and longstanding relationships with politicians across party lines should not be interpreted as evidence of a change in his political allegiance.

It described the former governor as a respected statesman whose years of public service had earned him relationships across Nigeria’s political divide.

According to the statement, Tambuwal remains committed to the ADC and is focused on strengthening the party, building broader cooperation and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The media office said the reports were a distraction at a time when Nigerians were seeking solutions to pressing economic, security and governance challenges.

It maintained that public discourse should focus on substantive issues and credible policy alternatives rather than unverified claims about politicians’ movements between parties.

The statement also reaffirmed Tambuwal’s commitment to accountable leadership, democratic values and the welfare of Nigerians.

It urged his supporters and members of the public to remain focused on the political work ahead, warning against allowing unfounded speculation to divert attention from the country’s challenges.

The media office further appealed to media organisations and social media commentators to verify reports concerning Tambuwal’s political affiliation directly with its office before publication.

It stressed that speculation should not be presented as established fact.
