A fresh crisis on Tuesday hit the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as one of the aspirants, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, announced that he would boycott the party’s presidential election results declaration over alleged manipulation of the process.
Hayatu-Deen alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread irregularities and vote rigging across the country, insisting that the credibility of the primary had been compromised.
In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, the presidential aspirant expressed disappointment over developments surrounding the exercise, saying he personally witnessed some of the alleged manipulations.
“I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today,” he stated.
“I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.”
His decision to stay away from the results announcement is expected to deepen tensions within the party as stakeholders await the outcome of the controversial primary.
