2027: Tinubu’ll Perform Better in FCT as Residents Embrace Projects, Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling party would secure improved electoral support in the FCT in 2027, citing growing acceptance of ongoing infrastructure projects among residents.

Wike said the impact of government interventions in satellite towns and rural communities was gradually changing public perception, especially among people who had long felt excluded from development.

Speaking on Tuesday after inspecting projects scheduled for commissioning ahead of Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, the minister said residents were responding positively to visible improvements in infrastructure and public services.

“What the people want is simple — they want to feel the impact of governance. It is not about magic. Nigerians are interested in good governance, infrastructure, electricity and improved living conditions,” he said.

According to him, no fewer than 20 projects are expected to be inaugurated in the coming weeks, although the figure may rise as additional works near completion.

“I said not less than 20 projects, but it may even be more than 20 because I did not include the water projects at Bwari and Karu. There are also projects in AMAC and Bwari Area Councils,” Wike stated.

He identified some of the ongoing road projects as the Pai-Gomani Road and the Gwagwalada-Nyanya Road, noting that the extension of infrastructure to satellite communities reflected a deliberate effort to spread development across the territory.

The minister also took a swipe at opposition politicians and coalition groups, urging them to visit project locations to assess the level of work being carried out by the administration.

“I think it will be interesting for the public to see governance in action. I wonder where the opposition or coalition members are. They should come and see what is happening in the FCT,” he added.

The inspection tour covered projects at Dakibiyu, Judges’ Quarters, Collector Road, Gaduwa, Kabusa and the proposed Apo Mechanic Village relocation site.

At Dakibiyu, Wike said rehabilitation work had attained about 70 per cent completion, with finishing works such as painting, installation of air-conditioning systems and court polishing ongoing.

He also inspected residential quarters built for judges of the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court and FCT High Court, describing the facilities as nearly completed and delivered to high standards.

The minister further disclosed that work was progressing on residences for officials of the National Industrial Court and the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

At Gaduwa and Kabusa, he noted that roads, bridges, walkways and streetlights were either completed or at advanced stages of execution.

“At the informal sector site, the roads and streetlights are already completed. What remains now is water connection. I also came with security officials so they can commence work on the police station and police residential quarters,” he said.

Responding to concerns about alleged preferential treatment for the judiciary, Wike maintained that the administration was investing across critical sectors to improve governance and service delivery.

“For the judiciary to be independent, you must provide the necessary infrastructure, welfare and working conditions. It is not only about the judiciary. We are also providing water, schools and other basic needs for Nigerians,” he said.

He added that the projects reflected an inclusive development strategy aimed at bringing infrastructure and essential services to underserved communities across the FCT.
