Alfindiki tackles Kwankwaso over alleged ‘family-first politics’ ahead of 2027

Kano, Nigeria — Former Chairman of Kano Municipal Council and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Faizu Alfindiki, has accused former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of promoting “family-first politics” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, Alfindiki alleged that Kwankwaso was backing his son, Mustapha Kwankwaso, for the position of deputy governorship candidate in Kano State, describing the move as “nepotism dressed in political clothing.”

“This is not leadership; it is nepotism dressed in political clothing,” Alfindiki said. “With an entire state full of capable, experienced and loyal Kwankwasiyya members, it is unacceptable to look within one family for such a critical position.”

He argued that the alleged decision sidelines long-serving members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement who have supported the political structure over the years.

According to him, many loyal supporters who participated in campaigns and mobilisation efforts now feel excluded from key political opportunities.

Alfindiki also warned that the development could signal the emergence of a political dynasty, alleging that Kwankwaso is being positioned as a vice-presidential candidate under the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), while his son is linked to the deputy governorship ticket in Kano.

“If that happens, it would mean one family occupying two critical positions at different levels of government,” he said, adding that such a scenario could erode internal democracy within the movement.

He further stated that the alleged arrangement risks alienating grassroots supporters and weakening confidence in the political structure ahead of 2027.

“The people of Kano State have been slapped in the face by this decision,” he added. “Thousands of loyal followers have been bypassed despite years of sacrifice.”

Alfindiki called on political actors to prioritise merit, fairness and inclusiveness in candidate selection, stressing that public offices should not be treated as hereditary positions.

However, responding to the controversy, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Kano NDC governorship candidate, dismissed the claims, insisting that the choice of Mustapha Kwankwaso as running mate was his personal decision.

He said the selection was not imposed by Senator Kwankwaso, adding that critics were reacting out of political fear ahead of the 2027 elections.
