Anambra Horror: Four Killed in Attack on Soludo Chief of Staff’s Convoy

Tension gripped Anambra State on Sunday night after gunmen ambushed the convoy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Chief of Staff, Chief Ben Nwankwo, killing four persons and leaving others injured.

The attack occurred along the Amansea–Awa–Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area as Nwankwo was returning to Awka after representing the governor at an official function.

Although the Chief of Staff escaped unhurt, two policemen and two civilians in the convoy were shot dead during the attack. Several others sustained injuries in the gun battle that lasted several minutes.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who were hiding in nearby bushes, opened fire on the convoy, causing panic among residents of communities along the route.

Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Government condemned the attack and vowed to track down the perpetrators.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Law Mefor, the government described the assault as an attack on the peace and security of the state.

“This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security and democratic order of our state,” the statement said.

The government expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured that security agencies had launched a manhunt for those responsible.

Mefor said police and other security operatives were already working to identify and arrest the attackers, insisting that the incident would not derail the state’s fight against crime.

“This isolated incident will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anambra,” the statement added.
