APC Appoints Fubara State Collation Officer for Presidential Primaries

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, as the State Coordinator and Collation Officer for Saturday’s presidential primaries.

The decision, announced by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), is part of a broader deployment of 37 coordinators and collation officers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the exercise scheduled for May 23, 2026.

Fubara’s appointment is seen as a significant development within the party, reflecting growing confidence in his leadership following his recent political alignment with the APC.

According to party sources, the presidential primaries will be conducted simultaneously across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards using the direct primary method. Votes cast at the ward level will be collated at local government levels before being transmitted to state collation officers, including Governor Fubara, for aggregation.

The collated state results will then be forwarded to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja for final processing on the same day.

The development comes amid Fubara’s evolving role within the APC. The governor had earlier participated in the party’s governorship screening process ahead of the 2027 elections but later stepped down, citing the need to promote unity within the party.

Political analysts say his appointment to oversee collation in Rivers State signals his continued relevance and influence within the party’s structure, particularly in a key oil-producing state.

The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, expressed confidence in the credibility of the process, assuring party members of a transparent and well-organised primary election nationwide.
