Army Recruitment: Northerners Arrested for Attempt to Take Lagos Slots

The Lagos State Government has called for the arrest and trial of six northern candidates involved in the Nigerian Army recruitment process, who falsely claimed to be indigenes of the state.

The individuals, originally from Kaduna State, attempted to secure slots designated for Lagos State indigenes by claiming Kosofe Local Government Area, Lagos Island Local Government Area, and Oshodi Isolo Local Government Area as their local governments of origin.

The video of the candidates’ false claims stirred reactions from Lagos residents, prompting the Lagos State Commissioner for Information Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, to emphasize the criminality of such attempts.

Omotoso stated that if found culpable, the police should arrest and try the offenders for perjury, as it is punishable under the law.

The Nigerian Army, acknowledging the incident, confirmed the arrest of the six candidates, emphasizing the commitment to a transparent and credible recruitment process.

The Army’s Director of Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, noted that an investigation would be conducted to identify those behind the fraudulent act and ascertain the extent of their activities.

The Army reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process, working in collaboration with relevant authorities to bring the culprits to justice. Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu warned other candidates against attempting to manipulate the process, emphasizing that any such misconduct would be met with the full force of the law.
