Atiku Cheers Court Victory, Backs ADC Leadership Under David Mark

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has hailed the Federal High Court’s decision striking out a suit challenging the leadership of the party, saying the judgment is a victory for the rule of law and constitutional democracy.

Reacting to Thursday’s ruling by Justice Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Atiku said the judgment reaffirmed that political parties must be allowed to manage their internal affairs in line with their constitutions.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former Vice President praised the judiciary for demonstrating independence and upholding the Constitution.

According to Atiku, the court rightly held that it lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case because the plaintiffs failed to exhaust the internal dispute resolution mechanisms provided by the ADC constitution and also failed to establish the legal standing required to institute the suit.

He said the verdict sent a strong message that the courts would not be used as instruments for settling partisan political battles.

Atiku further alleged that some political actors had attempted to destabilise opposition parties through litigation and other means but expressed confidence that the ruling had strengthened public trust in the judiciary.

The former Vice President congratulated the ADC leadership under David Mark, describing the National Working Committee as one that emerged through a lawful process in accordance with the party’s constitution.

He urged party members to remain united and committed to building a stronger opposition capable of providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative.

According to him, the judgment should not only be celebrated but should also serve as a reminder of the need to uphold democratic values, institutional integrity and respect for the rule of law.

Atiku maintained that the ADC remained united, focused and determined to pursue its political agenda despite legal and political challenges.
