Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has disclosed details of his recent meeting with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, saying their discussion focused on national issues and reconciliation after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary.
Atiku, who emerged winner of the ADC presidential ticket, met Amaechi at his Abuja residence shortly after the party’s primary election.
In a post on his X handle, Atiku said both men held frank discussions on Nigeria’s economic challenges, rising insecurity, and the need for collective efforts to address the country’s difficulties.
“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions,” he said.
He also congratulated Amaechi on his birthday during the visit, describing him in a light-hearted tone as “a thoroughly well-loaded Gunner,” while referring to their football rivalry banter.
Atiku further noted that Amaechi humorously apologised for not preparing a local delicacy, promising a future meeting over Fisherman Soup.
The visit comes days after the ADC presidential primary in Abuja, where Atiku defeated Amaechi and former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to clinch the party’s ticket for the 2027 general elections.
Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen, however, have both expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, alleging irregularities in the process.
