Bauchi Police Arrest 18-Year-Old Woman for Allegedly Stabbing Husband

An 18-year-old woman, Fatima Dalha, has been arrested in Bauchi State for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a dispute over money and personal belongings.

The incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday in Lirr Bajar, within Dass Local Government Area, after an argument between the couple escalated into a physical confrontation.

The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, saying the disagreement involved money, wrappers and a mobile phone the suspect reportedly claimed belonged to her.

According to the police, Dalha allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed her husband during the altercation.

The injured man was subsequently rushed to a hospital by police operatives from the Dass Division and is receiving medical treatment.

The command said the suspect was nearly lynched by an angry mob before officers arrived and rescued her from the scene.

Police have detained Dalha and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack. The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.

Police chief warns against domestic violence

Reacting to the incident, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged partners to seek peaceful ways of resolving disagreements.

“A moment of anger can destroy two lives forever. We urge couples to seek peaceful means, through family, elders and lawful channels, instead of resorting to violence,” Aliyu said in the statement.

The police commissioner also cautioned residents against taking the law into their own hands, warning against mob violence and jungle justice.

He assured the public that the police would handle the case professionally and humanely to ensure justice was served.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing remain subject to police investigation. The suspect’s arrest does not establish guilt, and the allegations will need to be determined through due process.
