Senate Thumbs up for FCTA on Infrastructure Provision

0

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) received high commendation from federal lawmakers for the volume of projects completed within the territory, despite the shortage of financing allocated to various economic sectors.

Sen. Tolu Odebiyi, the chairman of the Senate Committee on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) gave the commendation on certain important infrastructure projects that were still under development on Thursday in Abuja.

Odebiyi expressed satisfaction with the level of completion of most of the projects he had examined and promised that the national assembly would give any project that required urgent attention top priority.

According to him: “As you know, part of our responsibility is to provide oversight duties as part of other legislative duties and what we’ve seen today has been quite interesting. We believe that in the twilight of this administration which is about 10 months or there about, it is important that we catalogue all the projects that has been done, prioritize the ones that must be completed before the end of this term so that we can make sure that we provide the adequate funding and budgets for such projects. The FCT budget is going to be forwarded to us soon and it’s important that we come and see the state of the work and their completion rate.

“We will make sure that any of the projects that requires priority is given the due attention so as to elevate and increase efficiency.”

Speaking on what to expect from law makers in terms of approval of funds for critical projects, the chairman said, “We will wait for the Honourable Minister and his team to present us with their budgets they will catalogue what their priority projects are and based on what funding available and what revenue they have been able to generate, we will try and see how we can approve those fundings adequately.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of the FCT,  Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, while taking the law makers through projects at Wuye, Ring Road 1 interchange at Kaura District, Southern Parkway, said the present Administration has been able to achieve much success due to the smooth relationship between the FCTA and National Assembly.

He added that with the challenge of paucity of funds, the FCT administration decided to prioritize key infrastructure projects based on their impact to residents.

According to Bello : “What we did was because of paucity of funds, we decided to prioritize key infrastructure projects to get them completed and in deciding the ones that fits into that category, we look at the ones that will give maximum benefit to the maximum number of people. If you noticed, all the four projects we went to day are all road projects that are meant to link one section of the Abuja city to the other and that’s the whole idea. The master plan has been designed in such a way that the road networks are supposed to complement each other and if you finish one portion and don’t do the other, then you don’t get the full utility of that particular road.

“Our intention is that as we round up the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, we intend to complete a number of projects and some of them we intend to develop them to the level where the next administration will be able to complete them within a very short period. Ultimately the objective is to make Abuja a vibrant city, a city where people will feel comfortable, where there are no traffic gridlock and where facilities will work. Working together with the national assembly, and I’m sure we will be able to achieve that.”

The minister, however, stressed that the need to fast track the provision of infrastructure to meet the pace of its population surge has been quite challenging.

He added that, “Running a mega city is a huge challenge and as we all know over the past five years, demographically Abuja has changed tremendously. As a matter of fact, scientific reports have clearly indicated that Abuja is one of the fastest growing city in the world. So one of the major challenge is to be able to fast-track provision of infrastructure at the pace that will match the population growth. But more importantly, as the city continues to mature, many of the infrastructure of previous years are also maturing and requiring constant maintenance and this is one area we are deploying resources to make sure that while we build new infrastructure, we make sure that existing infrastructure is catered for. In the past and even presently projects are done diligently to the highest international standards that is why you see many of the bridges even though they are about 30 years old, they still remain solid and we want to extend their lifespan by making sure that we emphasis on maintenance while we continue to develop and construct, we are also going to maintain.

Some of the projects visited include the Southern Parkway, Ring Road 1 interchange at Kaura District, ongoing Rehabilitation and expansion of the OSEX road, the B6/B12, ongoing renovation of the NASS complex.

When completed, the 65km OSEX road is expected to link to Gwagwalada, and Wasa affordable housing area, Guzape.

The FCT Minister said the next phase of the road may be completed on a Public Private Partnership bases, as the road is critical to the next phase of the city’s development.

***As FCT Minister Authorized Massive Cleanup of Utako, Environs

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Thursday burst an illegal farm used in growing cannabis in one of the undeveloped plots.

This is coming as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister , Malam Muhammad Musa Bello ordered aggressive and massive sanitation in Utako, Jabi parks, Wuye District and its environs, in order to tackle enviromental degradation and other illegalities in the Districts.

The leader of the Ministerial Tasks Team on City Sanitation who is also the Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to FCT Minister, Comrade Ikharo Attah made this known on Thursday in Abuja.

He , however, bemoaned the activities by some lawless persons that were  gradually turning the Utako and Jabi parks areas to places that jeopardise both health and security of the city.

He also lamented that even the scavengers that took over a nearby undeveloped plots around the districts, have added growing cannabis to their other illegal activities and the plant has been forwarded to the NDLEA for further investigation.

According to Attah: ” A number of illicit car lots, mechanic shops, places of worship, roadside vendors, and a known scavengers colony have been forced to relocate dramatically as a result of the sanitation project that started on Thursday morning.

“I was saddened when he recently inspected activities in and around these Districts, according to Ikharo Attah, who also said that residents have abused the administration’s propensity to uphold the law to a great extent.

He noted with dismay,  that the residents had taken for granted the administration’s decision to use stakeholders engagement and respect for human rights in dealing with developmental issues before any enforcement.

According to him, the sanitation would remain a priority of the administration until total sanity was restored and the environment reclaimed for better developmental projects.

He further stated that: ” what is going on here is a total clean up in Utako, Wuye and Tunde Idiagbon connecting point . The Minister gave us the order and we started the joint operations this morning.

” At this place we are removing Baban Bola, you could be shocked seeing a matured grown cannabis.  We have been seeing them regularly within the Baban Bola colonies. It is not safe for people to stay here, especially when Baban Bola take over a karelia expanse of land like this.

” Both environmental,  security and planning issues are reasons why we are carrying out this massive clean up exercise and I believe the whole of this road stretch will wear a new look in the next one week “.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of Enforcement in Abuja Environmental Protection Board ( AEPB) Kaka Bello, said the clean up had become necessary following reports of security breaches coming from the Scavengers colony.

Bello who admitted that the areas pose challenges, also explained that the administration’s resolve to sustain the clean up exercise was justifiable, as the areas had been severally sanitised, but the lawless occupants refused to give up.

He also explained that the administration had reached out to the owners of the empty plots with several notices, and may take actions if such owners refuse to commence development after three months.

He noted that ” this is a place with a lot of challenges.  The Baban Bola colony here is not just constituting environmental, but security  challenges and that is why we are here.

” We came here yesterday to give them notice, beside the notices we have been giving them.

” The measures we have is to ensure continuous enforcement.  Just as you clean your house every day, we will continue to enforce compliance.

” Beside that FCTA has directed that all plot owners should come and take ownership of their properties within three months.  That is those that have building plan approval, and those who don’t have should also come forward, or appropriate actions will be taken”.

Nigeria Is Not Likely To Meet The 2030 Goal To End Tuberculosis

0

The World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested that although Nigeria is unlikely to cure tuberculosis by 2030, TB cases would begin to drop.

The UN body said that there is a chance we will hit our goal by 2035 if we do things correctly.

presenting during a webinar on the subject: “The Mission to End TB by 2030. How far are we? “According to Dr. Amos Omoniyi, WHO Professional Officer on Tuberculosis (TB) in Nigeria, there is a need to mobilize sufficient local resources in order to fight the dreaded illness. He claimed that 70% of the TB budget for 2021 was unfunded.

According to him:” the number falling ill with TB incidence in 2020 are 452,000. (Meaning, one person every minute). TB incidence rate 2020 is 219 per 100,000 population.
TB death rate in 2020 is 75 per 100,000 population.
The number of deaths in 2020 is 156,000 (meaning one person every three minutes due of (TB).

” To end TB in Nigeria, we must implement data driven evidence based and technology enhanced interventions as contained in the NSP/lesson learnt. Mobilize adequate domestic resources and 70 percent of the TB budget in 2021 was unfunded”.

In addition, the Deputy Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership in Geneva, Dr. Sahu Suvanand, noted that globally $250 billion is needed annually to combat TB.

He, therefore, urged Nigeria to increase domestic funding through the budget.
Also, Dr Chukwuma Anyaike, the Director and National Coordinator, National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Program at Federal Ministry of Health said WHO’s post 2015 End TB strategy was adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2014 aimed to end the global TB epidemic as part of the newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals.

He said it serves as a blue print for countries to reduce TB incidences by 80 percent, TB deaths by 90 percent and to eliminate catastrophic cost for TB affected households by 2030. The strategy is not a “one size fits all” approach and its success depends on adaptation for diverse country setting.

While profiling TB cases in Nigeria, Anyaike said , Nigeria ranked 6th among the high TB burden countries and first in Africa. Triple high burden for TB, TB/HIV and MDR-TB. The incidence of all forms of TB is 219/100,000 population ( More than 400,000 cases each year) . Nigeria is among the ten countries that accounted for 70 percent of the global gap and stands as priority for ending TB in the world. 91 percent of TB patients in the country are affected by catastrophic cost.

Earlier in her address of welcome, the acting Chair of the Nigeria Stop TB Partnership, Dr. Queen Ogbuji Oladipo said the webinar is for stakeholders to discuss and promote awareness to make sure that issues around TB are always on the news.

One of the TB survivors, Adebola Tope Adams said the government should declare a state of emergency on all forms of TB by employing both preventive and curative measures.

She also added that, there is a need for production of TB vaccine.

Wuye residents are made aware of the planned demolition – FCTA

***Vows To Revoke Abandoned Plots

Owners of undeveloped landed property in several areas of Wuye District have been advised by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to get the property developed right away or face revocation.

Tpl. Umar Shuiabu, the coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), issued this warning when he oversaw the ministerial joint taskforce on sensitization and inspection of affected areas of Wuye prior to its planned demolition of illegal structures in that District.

According to him: “We have many environmental, security and aesthetic challenges in parts of Abuja, including this area, and this calls for senitation of such places.

“Abuja is a planned and a beautiful city with world class infrastructure not seen in some countries, so we must not give anyone reason to question the sanity of this city.

“We have constructed beautiful road network here buy what we can see is illegal use of the road by mechanics and hawkers, among others. This has rendered this road impassable. We want to remove this embarkment, and give opportunity to all citizens and plot owners to use this road.

“Infact, there are other places also where these scavangers have taken over, we will do whatever that is legally possible to clear them. It is not only here, but in every other part of the city where illegality exist, we will remove it, till the time we will we have money to provide the infrastructure”.

Speaking on the risk of revocation of undeveloped plots, the AMMC boss said the FCTA was going to revoke and reallocate to those who willing and able to develop the area, “Instead of allowing it to lay fallow.

He added that, “Instead of developing this land, they leave the land and make it turn into a challenge for the city management.

“We have already provided infrastructure and the plot owners have not taken over. We are going to give them final notice if they don’t develop it we are going to revoke it and give it to those who will develop.

“The ultimatum is already in the papers for the land and we have power to revoke the land”.

Meanwhile, the SSA to the Minister on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement, Comrade Ikharo Attah hinted that the “Minister went round the area and it was very clear what he wanted.

“He wanted a massive cleanup of the entire area around Utako motor park, along Tunde Idiagbon Way, shouldn’t have nothing of illegality considering what he stood for during his life, and it is an all-encompassing job, which comprises of illegal motor parks, truck parks, babanbola, illegal Pantakers, and others.

“The Minister also directed that all illegal structures and several contraventions that run short of AEPB Act and Tegional Planning Act should be removed and cleaned up in line with the Abuja Master Plan”.

Ikharo assured: “In less than a week Utako will wear new look”.

While corroborating AMMC coordinator point on revocation, Attah said: “The Minister is very clear about it (revocation of undeveloped plots). He asked the Acting Director of Development Control to go with his team of town planners, inform and notify the plot owners take over their plots within a stipulated period, else the plots will be recommended to the Minister for revocation. We cannot have plots being a hide-out for criminals”, he warned.

On his part, Head, Monitoring and Enforcement, AEPB, Kaka Bello explained that his team had served them, but was dissatisfied with the level of compliance.

FCT Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Finishing Major Infrastructure Projects

0

Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has reaffirmed the Administration’s commitment to seeing the nation’s capital’s major infrastructure projects through to completion.

While also stating that the Administration would keep working to build the territory’s infrastructure in order to ensure that citizens benefit from democracy.

On Wednesday in Abuja, Bello made this statement while inspecting a bridge building project being built in the Wuye district of the FCT.

In a statement provided to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja by the Assistant Director of Information for the Office of the Honourable Minister, Hajiya Rabi Musa Umar, it was said that:
“This is one project that we are making sure to see that it is funded properly because as you know, the whole idea and also one of the cardinal objectives of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is to complete major infrastructure projects. By the time this bridge is done, Wuse District and Wuye District would be connected and traffic flow is going to be much enhanced.

“More importantly, already you can see that Wuye District has become very vibrant. Construction activities are on-going and construction sites within the district are also vibrant now and that is why, like Mr. President would always say, infrastructure is key and that is what this administration will continue to provide. That’s the only way we can accommodate the teeming population of the city”.

Bello therefore urged residents to continue to support the Administration and the construction companies to enable them deliver on the dividends of democracy.

He expressed satisfaction with Messrs. Arab Contractors Nigeria Limited, the construction company handling the project for the FCDA, for the work done so far on the project, adding that with the pace of work, the project could be completed by the end of 2022.

Speaking on the scope of work of the project, the Director, Engineering Services, FCDA , Engr. Obiora Ezeoha said, the work involved arterial roads, connectors, important local streets, minor access roads and two river bridges.

“We equally have pedestrian and interchange locations as part of the scope that was added in 2014. Generally, the project is 85 percent completed while the interchange location is 45 percent completed and we believe that by the end of this year, Arab Contractors will be able to finish the projects.”, he added.

The project was initially awarded in August 2009 and reviewed in 2014 to include the interchange at Ring Road One/Olusegun Obasanjo way.

New Sida Grant Will Increase Children In North-eastern Nigeria’s Access To Better Nutrition, Clean Water

0

A new funding initiative supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency will provide acute malnutrition management services to more than 280 000 pregnant women, caregivers, and kids under five (SIDA).

The new funding of SEK 26 million (US$ 2.7 million), to be implemented by UNICEF and partners, will also help improve access to safe water, sanitation systems and hygiene for 86,000 conflict-affected women and children in north-east Nigeria.

Thirteen years of armed conflict in north-east Nigeria has left women and children in acute vulnerability. Congestion in camps and settlements, high rates of open defecation and poor sanitation practices have put conflict-affected families and children at the risk of disease outbreaks and preventable deaths. Insecurity, loss of livelihood opportunities, high food prices and COVID-19 combined have put 4.1 million people in need of food assistance, drastically impacting the food and nutrition quality available for children in the region.

North-east Nigeria is currently experiencing its highest burden of acute malnutrition since 2016, with 34 per cent projected increase in the burden of acute malnutrition in the lean season of 2022, compared to 2021. Unless urgent actions are taken, at least 1.7 million under five children in north-east Nigeria will need acute malnutrition treatment in 2022.

Peter Hawkins, UNICEF Representative in Nigeria said “Malnutrition, the single most deadly threat to child survival and development is dealing children in north-east Nigeria a deadly hand.’’

“Insecurity, global hike in food prices and ongoing humanitarian interventions targeting early detection at the household level are resulting in a record number of under five children presenting symptoms of acute malnutrition and needing urgent life-saving services.

“UNICEF is grateful that the support from SIDA will not only help to scale treatment services to more children and address contributory water and sanitation services issues in camps and settlements, but will also help increase investment in preventive nutrition services targeting pregnant women and lactating mothers with maternal nutrition services.’’

Crisis Rocks ECWA Church in Abuja, Pastor Ensnared in Scandal

0

As the Headquarters of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) is yet to come out of the crisis that has engulfed one of its biggest churches in Jos which is currently in court, there is a problem in one of its biggest churches in Abuja due to the financial indiscretion and maladministration of the Senior Pastor of the church.

The Senior Pastor, ECWA Wuse II, Rev. Dr. Nash Azaki whose stewardship has been under serious scrutiny, has overwhelming allegations of financial indiscretion and maladministration hanging on him and over which the leadership of the denomination has failed to act.

A petition to the Headquarters of ECWA, signed by eleven concerned members of the local church, alleged that Rev(Dr) Azaki violated the financial guidelines and bylaws of ECWA within two months of his appointment as the Senior Pastor of the church. As a result of his financial indiscipline coupled with his amateur administrative approach, the population of the assembly has been depleted from over 3,000 to about 1,500 members within a space of two years of his stewardship.

Investigation revealed that Azaki’s impudence led him to fraudulently obtain two debit cards with which he accessed the church’s naira and dollar accounts and this was done without prerequisite approval of the Church Board as specified in ECWA’s Bylaws. The petitioners said that “the Senior Pastor withdraws cash from ATM (sometimes he sent people) and spent church funds using the debit card without the knowledge or approval of Local Church Board LCB)”.

Confirming that his actions were gross misconduct and in breach of the ECWA Bylaws, it was learned some Elders collected and destroyed the two debit cards, but the Senior Pastor has continued to explore other illegal means, which include, giving verbal instruction to one of the church’s banks for a release of N4m of the church funds without following due process.

The Cleric who is currently in the eyes of the storm over his maladministration was said to have also been promoted and posted to ECWA Wuse II to head two other Pastors who are his seniors in the ministry while he was still a student in the US. This was said to have breached ECWA’S Bylaws and Ministerial protocols too.

It was gathered that the Cleric’s indiscipline which has adversely affected the Church’s spiritual well-being and even financial status, has continued unabated due to his alleged links with certain cabal in the Headquarters of ECWA.

In the petition, it was alleged that his indiscipline and impunity was traceable to the wrong process that imposed him over his seniors in the ministry. According to the petition, Rev. Azaki was ordained in 2019 and posted to ECWA Wuse II to head the two pastors who were ordained in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

A reliable source in the Church who pleaded anonymity, confirmed that soon after the embattled Cleric assumed duties in the local church in 2020, there was an unprecedented exodus of youthful population of the church membership due to several allegations and complaints against the him.

Another letter also obtained during investigation revealed that, “the current state of affairs in the LCB was caused by the failure of the LCB to carry out due diligence on Rev. (Dr.) Azaki as all previous LCBs had done for incoming Pastors.”

When approached with the allegations, the embattled Cleric neither denied nor admitted to be guilty.

Instead of giving personal responses to defend himself, he invited the Church’s Secretary to respond on his behalf and agreed that such responses suffice as his own.

According to the Church Secretary, every issue of concern raised in the document by the aggrieved members have been resolved during series of meetings held with them.

All Illegal Conversion on Kuje Railway Corridor Will Be Demolished by FCTA

0

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has been alerted to the illegal conversion of the Kuje Railway line to private residences (FCTA).

At a gathering with traditional leaders, council representatives, Kuje traders, and artists over the weekend, this information was made public.

The situation was described as “extremely disturbing” by Comrade Ikharo Attah, Senior Special Assistant on Monitoring, Inspection and Enforcement to the FCT Minister. He also issued a warning that all such illegal structures would be demolished without making any restitution to the owners.

Attah also expressed shock at the lack of due diligence performed by land purchasers for railway corridors prior to spending their hard-earned money in such a risky transaction.

FCT-IRS Uses Strong Penalty Against Tax Defaulters

0

*** Requests Help of the Tax Appeal Tribunal

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) has made the decision to take harsh action against careless taxpayers in order to ensure that they comply with the payment and filing of tax returns.

When Mr. Haruna Abdullahi, the Service’s acting executive chairman, made the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TATleadership )’s a courtesy visit in Abuja, he revealed this.

According to Abdullahi, it is no longer business as usual because the FCT-IRS is legally permitted to collect all unpaid tax obligations and prosecute tax evaders. Every taxpayer in the FCT must be accountable and responsive to their civic responsibilities, and the Service is equipped and committed to achieving this goal.

This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Head Corporate Communications, FCT-IRS. Mustapha Sumaila on Sunday in Abuja.

He said considering the number of the taxpayers in the FCT, it is shameful to see that so many of them are not complying, stating that “we need to change that, we are engaging the Judiciary, Security Agencies, the media and other relevant stakeholders on this matter, I can assure you, before the year runs out, people will be held accountable.

“We are ready, we have built our capacity and it is our intention to make our mark and ensure that people do what they are supposed to do according to the law. We will be guided by the Personal Income Tax Act, Finance Act, FCT-IRS Act and of course, the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” he said.

Abdullahi, who assured the Tribunal of the internal capacity of the Service, charged members of the Tribunal to justify the confidence reposed in them by the law by working assiduously towards ensuring that recalcitrant taxpayers are brought to justice.

The acting executive chairman stated some of the derivable benefits the collaboration will bring to both parties and the country to include voluntary tax compliance, evident growth of the tax net, awareness creation on FCT-IRS processes and the responsibility of the Tax Appeal Tribunal.

He said others include stringent enforcement actions which will ultimately result to a significant boost in revenue generation.

He disclosed that through this step, more individuals and agencies will be held accountable for failing to pay taxes as and when due. This is in line with the engagement being carried out by the Service with the judiciary, security agencies and other stakeholders.

Abdullahi described the visit as a step in the right direction and expressed delight in the quick adjudication of cases by the Tribunal.

In her response, The Coordinating Secretary of the Tax Appeal Tribunal, Hajara Bolanle Oniyangi expressed happiness on the visit by the delegation from FCT-IRS.

Oniyangi stated that it is important for the Service to harness all areas of revenue generation as permissible by law.

She added that as a revenue generating agency there is bound to be dispute emanating from the Service, displeased taxpayers and Agencies, hence the reason the Tax Appeal Tribunal was established.

Speaking on the benefits of the initiative, she noted that the Tribunal’s processes are simple and clear with a reputation for prompt judgement delivery.

Lauding the Acting Executive Chairman’s efforts and recognising the intricate role of publicity in boosting compliance, Mrs. Oniyangi expressed her delight on the initiative taken by the Service to partner with the Tribunal.

She also highlighted the need for the Service to intensify its awareness and sensitisation efforts stating that taxpayers cannot be entirely be blamed for non-compliance if they are not duly informed about the process, pros and cons of paying their taxes and vice versa.

In his remarks, the Secretary of the tribunal, Mr Ahmed Aliyu also expressed joy on the step taken by the Service towards strengthening the enforcement with a view to boosting the revenue collection of FCT-IRS.

“If, for instance, there are organisations that collect personal income tax and fail to remit, it is sometimes difficult to go in there and force them, but there is a Tribunal created by the government for that purpose, and, once judgement is delivered by the Tribunal, even if they want to appeal, they will have to pay the money first”

Aliyu also pledged to assist the Service in whatever way possible within the ambit of the law to ensure that cases from FCT IRS are given accelerated hearing within the ambit of the Procedure Rules of the Tribunal, in order to ensure that not a single tax payer evades or avoids his or her tax paying obligation, which he said, would ultimately enhance the revenue generation of the FCT.

NPC Warns About Fake Recruitment Portal

0

The phony recruitment portal that was allegedly built by the National Population Commission (NPC) has drawn the attention of authorities.

Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, Director of Public Affairs for the NPC, stated in a statement on Monday that Nigerians have been invited to apply for jobs for the Trial Census and the 2023 Census using a fraudulent website called “NPC Recruitment 2022/2023.”

The declaration says, in part: “The National Population Commission has been made aware of the spread on social media of a fraudulent “NPC Recruitment 2022/2023” portal that solicits applications from Nigerians for positions with the Trial Census and the 2023 Census.

“The Commission wishes to state that this information is totally false and misleading, and should therefore be treated as a scam by fraudsters to swindle unsuspecting members of the public, particularly job applicants.

“The Commission disassociates itself from the portal and reiterates the fact that its recruitment portal for the on-going Trial Census is no longer active and was shut down the moment the Commission concluded its recruitment process for the exercise.

“It will be recalled that on the 30th May, 2022, the Commission announced through its social media platforms and also widely reported on other national mainstream media the opening of an e-recruitment portal https://recruitment.adhoctrial.nationalpopulation.gov.ng for the recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the Trial Census exercise nationwide.

“The recruitment of the 14,461 field functionaries has been concluded and the Trial census commenced on 27th June, 2022.

“The Commission wishes to assure Nigerians of its commitment to transparency in the conduct of all activities related to the conduct of the 2023 Census, including recruitment of ad- hoc staff.

“All communication on issues relating to the Commission will be disseminated through its official platforms which include media advertisements, NPC website and verified social media platforms.”

Yahaya said the Commission is taking every measure to uncover those behind the fraudulent recruitment site, warning scammers to desist from “this inglorious act as the Commission will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law to bear on perpetrators in its quest to conduct the first fully digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria next year that will be credible and acceptable.”
