The Nigeria Customs Service has honoured retiring Comptroller Josephine Egwakhide of the Budget Unit after 35 years of distinguished service, describing her as a committed officer whose contributions helped strengthen the institution’s financial and administrative operations.
The send-off ceremony, held on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at the Customs Headquarters, brought together senior officers, colleagues, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate her career and service to the nation.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, DCG Kikelomo Adeola, praised Egwakhide’s dedication and leadership, noting that her work had left a lasting imprint on the Service.
“Whatever you have done, people have seen it, and it will remain part of history. It is not out of place to celebrate you,” Adeola said.
She further commended the retiring comptroller’s ability to coordinate officers effectively, urging her to remain active in mentorship even after retirement.
“Continue to mentor the younger generation and those around you. Do not go home and relax; continue to contribute meaningfully to society,” she added.
Also speaking, the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Finance and Administration, Idris Abba-Aji, described retirement as a milestone rather than an end, saying Egwakhide’s career reflected commitment and professionalism.
“We celebrate her today as she exits the Service after 35 years of meritorious service,” he said.
Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of a commemorative plaque and card in recognition of her contributions to the Service.
In her remarks, Comptroller Egwakhide expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Customs Service for the opportunity to serve, describing her time in the Budget Unit as particularly impactful.
“The Service has shaped my life. I have worked with many officers, but those in the Budget Unit hold a special place in my heart,” she said.
She also thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs for his support and encouraged officers to maintain the professional relationships built over the years.
The event ended with tributes from colleagues who praised her professionalism, mentorship, and decades of dedicated service.
