An officer of the Edo State Security Corps, Martins Enahoro, and two other persons have been killed in separate violent incidents recorded in Sobe and Ewatto areas of Edo State.
The Edo State Police Command also confirmed the arrest of 15 suspects in connection with the incidents, while injured persons are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the incidents occurred on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
According to her, trouble started in Sobe at about 10am after one Ojo Gabriel of Atoruru Village reported an alleged assault and malicious damage to property at the Sobe Police Division.
She said police detectives and personnel of the Edo State Security Corps were immediately deployed to the area, but the youths allegedly attacked the security personnel upon sighting them.
The attackers reportedly damaged the side glass of a police patrol vehicle and assaulted members of the Edo State Security Corps.
Two locally made single-barrel guns belonging to the security personnel were also reportedly taken away during the confrontation.
Ikoedem said three ESSC personnel — Tunde Ali, Izedu Monday and Charles Ighororo — sustained serious injuries and were receiving medical attention.
She added that three unidentified youths sustained pellet injuries during the clash, while one of them later died while receiving treatment at David and Stella Hospital, Sabongida-Ora.
The deceased’s remains were deposited at Heavenly Home Mortuary, Sabongida-Ora, while efforts were ongoing to identify him and contact his family.
The police spokesperson said 11 suspects had been arrested in connection with the Sobe incident and that the two stolen guns had been recovered.
She added that security had been reinforced with police and military personnel and normalcy restored to the area.
In a separate incident at Ewatto, the command received a distress call at about 12:20pm over an alleged attack on ESSN personnel, Martins Enahoro, by suspected members of the Aro Berger confraternity.
According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that Enahoro, while attempting to defend himself during the confrontation, stabbed one of his alleged attackers, identified as Gbozia.
The security officer was subsequently attacked and sustained multiple cut injuries.
Both Enahoro and Gbozia were rushed to God’s Will Hospital, Ewohimi, where doctors confirmed them dead.
Their remains were deposited at the mortuary pending further investigation.
The police said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the Ewatto incident, with two allegedly confessing to membership of the Vikings and Aiye confraternities.
All the suspects have been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.
The command said Police Mobile Force personnel from Squadron 82 had been deployed to reinforce security in the affected areas.
The police warned that attacks on security personnel remained criminal offences and would not be tolerated.
The Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding and provide useful information that could assist the investigation.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that anyone found culpable would face the law.
