GOMBE — The Emir of Gombe, Alhaji (Dr) Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has been appointed Chairman of a reconstituted committee tasked with preserving the state’s museums, monuments and cultural heritage.
The reconstitution was approved by Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya as part of renewed efforts by his administration to safeguard and promote the state’s historical and cultural assets, according to a statement issued by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, conveyed the governor’s approval and announced the composition of the committee, which is mandated to drive heritage conservation across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture, Mr Moses Kyari Bolda, will serve as Deputy Chairman, while the Head of the State Civil Service, Professor Muazu Shehu, will serve as Secretary.
Other members of the committee are the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); the Director-General of Gombe Media Corporation; elder statesman Alhaji Yaya Hammari (Wazirin Yeriman Gombe); Mr Yakubu Sarma, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties; historian Dr Usman Isa Ya’u; and Alhaji Abdulfatah Aliyu (Dan Amar Kaltungo).
According to Misilli, the committee’s reconstitution represents a renewed effort to ensure that Gombe’s historical records, monuments and cultural assets are properly protected.
Quoting the Secretary to the State Government, Misilli said the composition of the committee reflects Governor Yahaya’s recognition of the importance of preserving the state’s heritage.
“The composition of the committee reflects Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s recognition of the importance of preserving the historical records, monuments and cultural assets that embody the identity and collective memory of the people of Gombe State,” Njodi said
He added that the initiative would help ensure that important landmarks are “not lost to time, but are properly preserved and passed on to future generations.”
The appointments take immediate effect.
