Ex-NNPC CFO Abdulrazaq Bags Zazzau Traditional Title

The Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has conferred the traditional title of Tafidan Yamman Zazzau on former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Chief Financial Officer, Mallam Isiaka Abdulrazaq, in recognition of his contributions to community development and peace-building.

The appointment was confirmed in a letter issued by the Zazzau Emirate Council on October 7, 2026, corresponding to 27 Rabi’ul Thani, 1448 AH.

The letter, from the Office of the Council Secretary, was signed by Malam Yusuf Abubakar Hayat, Magatakardan Zazzau.

According to the council, the title recognises Abdulrazaq’s contributions to the development of his community, the promotion of peaceful coexistence and the advancement of the Zazzau Emirate.

Abdulrazaq, a lawyer and finance expert, has had a distinguished career in Nigeria’s public sector, particularly in the power and petroleum industries.

He began his public service career at the National Electric Power Authority, which later became the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, rising to the position of Executive Director, Finance and Accounts.

He subsequently joined the NNPC, where he served as Chief Financial Officer before retiring in 2019.

Born in Zaria, Kaduna State, Abdulrazaq attended Barewa College, one of Northern Nigeria’s longstanding educational institutions. Beyond his professional career, he has also been involved in philanthropic activities and community development initiatives.

His appointment reflects his family’s longstanding ties to the Zazzau Emirate.

He is the son of the late Alhaji A.G.F. Abdulrazaq, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Tafidan Zazzau, who was conferred with a traditional title in 1962.

According to details accompanying the announcement, the family has maintained a longstanding relationship with Zaria since the mid-1950s.

The Emir and members of the Zazzau Emirate Council congratulated the new title holder, expressing confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibilities attached to the traditional office.

They also prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and strength for Abdulrazaq as he begins his new role.

The Zazzau Emirate Council, headquartered at the Emir’s Palace in Zaria, plays a key role in preserving the emirate’s traditional institutions and cultural heritage while promoting peace, unity and community development.
