The Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, has called on the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Abuja zone to deepen corporate governance standards and drive innovation to address emerging economic challenges.
Eyesan made the call in her goodwill message at the investiture ceremony of the Chairperson of CIoD Nigeria Abuja zone, Mrs. Rose Eshiett, as well as the inauguration of the institute’s 11th Executive Committee.
She stressed the importance of strong leadership structures across both public and private sectors, noting that boards and executive teams must continue to provide strategic direction, oversight, and discipline in an increasingly complex operating environment.
According to her, effective governance remains critical to sustaining institutional stability and economic resilience in Nigeria.
“In this regard, the role of the Chartered Institute of Directors remains indispensable,” Eyesan said. “By developing competent directors and promoting global governance standards, the Institute contributes meaningfully to the strength and resilience of Nigerian institutions.”
She further emphasized that innovation, alongside sound governance practices, is essential for organizations seeking to remain competitive and responsive to changing economic realities.
The event marked the formal assumption of office by Mrs. Rose Eshiett as Chairperson of the CIoD Abuja zone, alongside the inauguration of the zone’s new executive committee.
The CIoD, which focuses on advancing corporate governance practices and leadership development, was described during the ceremony as a key institution in shaping boardroom standards and strengthening decision-making across sectors.
Eyesan’s remarks highlighted the growing demand for competent leadership in Nigeria’s corporate and public governance systems, particularly as organizations navigate regulatory changes, economic pressures, and global competitiveness.
She reaffirmed that institutions such as CIoD play a critical role in building capacity for directors and promoting ethical governance frameworks that support national development.
The investiture event concluded with a renewed commitment by the new CIoD leadership to advance governance excellence and strengthen institutional capacity across Nigeria.
