A 46-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in Mumbai after police allegedly recovered 203 grams of cocaine valued at approximately ₦386 million during a patrol operation in the Worli area.
According to officials from the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) attached to Worli police station, the suspect identified as Eze Samuel Nweze was arrested on Thursday night near Doordarshan Kendra in Worli.
Police said the suspect, a native of Uburu in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, was allegedly residing illegally in Nalasopara near Mumbai without valid immigration documents at the time of his arrest.
The arrest reportedly followed a routine patrol operation when officers spotted the suspect carrying a black bag in the area. On noticing the presence of the police team, he allegedly attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended by officers on duty.
During preliminary questioning, police stated that the suspect allegedly admitted to being in the area to supply cocaine to potential customers. The Anti-Narcotics Cell further confirmed that the recovered substance weighed 203 grams and is valued at about ₦386 million based on estimated street pricing.
Authorities said a case has been registered against the suspect under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drugs and possible connections to wider trafficking networks.
Police added that the suspect is currently in custody as investigators continue efforts to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals who may be involved in the alleged operation.
The case comes amid ongoing anti-narcotics enforcement activities in Mumbai and other parts of India, where authorities have recently intensified operations targeting illegal drug distribution networks.
Officials noted that similar arrests have been made in recent weeks involving foreign nationals allegedly linked to drug trafficking activities, with seizures of cocaine, MDMA, and other controlled substances reported in separate operations.
In one such earlier case in south Delhi’s Maidan Garhi area, police arrested two Nigerian nationals following intelligence-led surveillance, recovering multiple narcotics including cocaine and psychotropic substances. Authorities said both suspects were found to be residing in India without valid visas.
Police say investigations remain active as efforts continue to dismantle drug distribution networks and identify all individuals connected to the case.
