FCT No Longer Safe for Vandals, NSCDC Boss Warns, Seeks Residents’ Support

ABUJA – The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has called on residents of the FCT to join hands with security agencies in protecting public infrastructure from vandals.

Odumosu made the appeal as the Corps intensified its campaign against the destruction of critical national assets, particularly ongoing infrastructure projects executed by the Federal Government across the nation’s capital.

In a statement issued on Monday by the FCT Command Public Relations Officer, DSC Monica Ojobi, the Commandant said the government’s developmental projects are dividends of democracy that deserve collective protection.

He stressed that safeguarding public facilities should not be left to the NSCDC alone, noting that every resident has a responsibility to protect infrastructure meant to improve the quality of life.

According to him, security is everyone’s responsibility, urging residents to develop a sense of ownership of public assets and promptly report acts of vandalism.

“Our operations are intelligence-driven. We rely heavily on credible information from members of the public. Many people turn a blind eye when vandals strike around them. That is wrong. Residents should immediately report such activities through our emergency lines: 08159066244 or 09166229882,” Odumosu said.

The Commandant warned that vandalism remains a serious threat to national development, insisting that the Corps would not treat offenders with leniency.

“As the lead agency responsible for protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), we are fully prepared to respond swiftly to credible intelligence. We will not allow criminal elements to sabotage government efforts aimed at improving the welfare of residents,” he stated.

He declared that the FCT is no longer a safe haven for vandals, warning perpetrators to abandon the criminal act or face the full weight of the law.

Odumosu disclosed that the Command has intensified 24-hour surveillance across the territory, stressing that anyone arrested for vandalising public infrastructure would be prosecuted.

The NSCDC boss also appealed to operators of Private Guard Companies (PGCs) to support the Corps with credible intelligence that would aid efforts to secure critical facilities.

He warned that the Command would clamp down on private security companies operating with fake, expired or invalid licences.

According to him, some operators have continued to violate the laws regulating private security operations, a situation he described as unacceptable.

“Any private security company operating in the FCT without a valid licence is doing so at its own risk. Our enforcement team will soon catch up with such operators,” he warned.

Odumosu further revealed that surveillance of Private Guard Companies is ongoing across the FCT as part of efforts to enforce compliance.

He added that the Command is compiling a list of defaulting companies and would soon commence full enforcement, urging operators with expired licences or fake documents to regularise their status or risk arrest and the sealing of their businesses.
