Public sector leaders, family members and associates on Tuesday gathered in Abuja to mark the first anniversary of the passing of the late Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Head of Service, Grace Adayilo, with the official launch of the Grace Adayilo Legacy Initiative for Grassroots Development (GALI).
The initiative, according to its promoters, is aimed at transforming Adayilo’s years of public service into a sustainable platform for grassroots development, women empowerment and administrative excellence across the FCT.
Speaking at the event, the FCT Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Nancy Nathan, commended the initiative and pledged the continued support of the FCT Administration.
She urged young public servants to emulate Adayilo’s dedication and commitment to service, while advising the foundation to uphold high standards of transparency, integrity and accountability.
Also speaking, the Director of the FCT Department of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, said GALI would place strong emphasis on uplifting communities and empowering people at the grassroots.
She said one of the core pillars of the initiative would be support for the Yeyedu Women Association, a network of women mentored by the late Adayilo, who was affectionately known as “Mama Africa”.
Ahmadu explained that the initiative brings together Adayilo’s family, mentees, friends and associates with the objective of translating her legacy of public sector leadership and service into measurable development interventions.
The launch, held on the first anniversary of Adayilo’s passing, was also a tribute to her contributions to public service and her commitment to mentoring and community development in the FCT.
