Suspected gunmen stormed one of the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (NCS) institutions in Oyo State,
The Abolongo correctional service in Oyo town was reportedly stormed by gunmen on Friday evening, according to reports.
During the attack, the gunmen reportedly released all of the facility’s inmates.
On Saturday, it was learned that the attackers stormed the facility around 10 p.m. on Friday.
The assailants allegedly used grenades to gain entrance and free the prisoners.
When contacted, Olanrewaju Anjorin, the state spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), confirmed the attack to journalists on Saturday.
In a phone discussion with media on Saturday morning, Anjorin stated that the agency’s senior executives were on their way to examine the extent of the damage.
According to him, “Yes. It has been confirmed that the attack actually happened.
“And right now, the comptroller of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and other top officers are assessing the situation.
“But, I can confirm to you that the incident actually happened”.
