Abuja, Nigeria — Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has alleged that he was promised an automatic ticket by the All Progressives Congress (APC) before joining the party, a pledge he claims was not fulfilled ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in a recent interview, Nwoko expressed disappointment over what he described as a broken political assurance.û
“I was assured automatic ticket before I joined APC but it was never done… I certainly was told before I came into the party that there would be an automatic ticket for me,” he said.
Background to the Dispute
Nwoko defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in February 2025, reportedly after receiving assurances from party stakeholders that he would be unopposed for the Delta North senatorial ticket.
However, during the APC senatorial primary held on May 18, 2026, the contest did not go in his favour. Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa emerged winner with 113,309 votes, while Nwoko polled 2,612 votes.
Allegations of Irregularities
Following the outcome, the senator rejected the result, alleging irregularities, intimidation, and a breach of agreement by party leadership. He further insisted that he possesses evidence suggesting he won the primary and has formally petitioned the APC appeal committee.
The claims have intensified internal tensions within the APC in Delta State, particularly around the integration of high-profile defectors ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party Reaction Awaited
As of press time, the APC national leadership has not issued an official response to the allegations. The matter is expected to be reviewed through the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms.
Political observers say the development underscores ongoing power struggles within the APC as aspirants position themselves for the 2027 elections.
