The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has declared a three-day nationwide prayer and fasting programme for peace, healing and stability in Nigeria amid rising insecurity, economic hardship and growing political tensions.
The Christian body said the spiritual exercise, which will run from May 22 to May 24, 2026, is aimed at seeking divine intervention over the country’s challenges and future.
PFN disclosed that the decision was reached during a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) held on May 8, where members expressed concern over the worsening state of the nation.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the National Publicity Secretary of PFN, Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, the fellowship lamented the persistent violence, bloodshed, attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the economic difficulties confronting millions of Nigerians.
The body also raised concerns over rising social tensions and anxieties surrounding the nation’s political future and forthcoming elections.
“As a body deeply committed to the spiritual health, unity, peace and progress of Nigeria, the Fellowship believes this is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation,” the statement read.
PFN explained that the prayer and fasting exercise would coincide with the Global Pentecost Day celebration and is anchored on the biblical instruction in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on God’s people to humble themselves, pray and seek divine healing for the land.
According to the fellowship, the first two days — Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 — have been set aside for fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies across the country.
It added that on Sunday, May 24, Christians in all states of the federation are expected to gather at designated venues approved by PFN state executives for a united national prayer assembly.
PFN urged churches, pastors, Christian leaders, youths, women and believers across denominations to participate actively in the exercise.
The fellowship outlined key prayer points to include divine intervention for Nigeria, restoration of peace and security, an end to bloodshed and terrorism, economic recovery, peaceful elections and the emergence of God-fearing leaders.
Others include unity within the Church, national healing and spiritual revival across the country.
The body expressed confidence that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through sincere repentance, unity and prayer.
“We believe that as the Church unites in prayer, God will intervene in the affairs of our nation and grant Nigeria peace, healing, stability and a new season of hope,” PFN stated.
