Kidnap Threat Backfires As Kebbi Police Nab Four Over ₦30m Ransom Plot

FOUR suspected fraudsters have landed in police net in Kebbi State after allegedly threatening to kidnap a resident unless he paid a whopping ₦30 million ransom.

The Kebbi State Police Command said the suspects were arrested for allegedly masterminding a plot to extort Aminu Garba of Jega through repeated telephone threats.

Police spokesman, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the suspects allegedly used a newly acquired telephone line and disguised their voices to sound like Fulani kidnappers in a bid to intimidate the victim.

According to him, investigations revealed that one of the victim’s relatives allegedly supplied Garba’s telephone number to the suspects, who repeatedly called and threatened to abduct him if he failed to produce the ₦30 million.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked and arrested the suspects identified as Muhammad Shafiu, Mansur Ibrahim and Muhammed Sulaiman, while investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect linked to the alleged conspiracy.

The command said the suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, urged residents of Kebbi State to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities before they escalate into criminal acts.

He assured members of the public that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping, extortion and other violent crimes across the state.
