The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 general election after a decisive victory at the party’s primary in Ilorin.
Danladi secured the ticket with 94,000 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ambassador Yahaya Seriki, who polled 41,700 votes, while former APC State Chairman, Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa (BOB), came third with 22,118 votes.
The result was officially announced by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who declared Danladi as the party’s flag bearer following a peaceful and well-conducted exercise.
A native of Baruten Local Government Area, Danladi, born in 1985, is an engineer and politician who has represented the Ilesha-Gwanara constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly since 2019.
He became Speaker of the 9th Assembly in 2019 and retained the position in 2023, making him one of the few lawmakers in the state to serve two consecutive terms as Speaker.
Party stakeholders described his emergence as a reflection of strong grassroots support and legislative experience, noting that it is expected to strengthen unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reacting to his victory, Danladi expressed appreciation to delegates and party leaders, pledging to deliver inclusive governance and sustain the development agenda of the state if elected governor.
With the APC ticket secured, political attention in Kwara now shifts to the 2027 governorship election, where a competitive race is expected.
