League of Imams , Alfas in Yoruba Land Raises Alarm Over Rising Insecurity in Oyo State & Nigeria

Ibadan, Oyo State — The Raabitatul-Aimmat Wal Ulama Fi Biladi Yoruba (League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba Land), with headquarters in Bodija, Ibadan, has issued a strongly-worded press release expressing deep concern and sadness over the escalating wave of insecurity across Yoruba Land and Nigeria.

Key Concerns Highlighted

The League particularly condemned the recent abduction of 39 students and seven teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The group described such criminal acts against innocent children, educators, and law-abiding citizens as “unacceptable, condemnable, and contrary to the teachings of Islam.”

Quoting the Glorious Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), the statement emphasized the sanctity of human life:

“Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:32)

Call to Action

The League called on:

Security agencies at all levels to intensify efforts.

Perpetrators of these crimes to be brought to justice without delay.

All Muslims, Islamic organizations, traditional institutions, community leaders, parents, teachers, religious leaders, youth organizations, and stakeholders to promote vigilance, unity, and cooperation with lawful authorities.

They also announced the commencement of special prayers, supplications, and spiritual engagements throughout Yoruba Land for the restoration of peace, security, and harmony.

Commendation for President Tinubu

On the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, the League congratulated the President and Commander-in-Chief, acknowledging the significant economic challenges (fuel subsidy removal, forex instability, inflation) while commending ongoing reforms aimed at long-term development. They prayed for divine guidance, strength, and success for the President in steering the affairs of the nation.

Full Statement Signed By Prominent Leaders

The press release was jointly signed by top Islamic leaders including:

Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere (Chief Imam of Ewi of Ado-Ekiti)

Sheikh Sa’adullah Bamigbola (Chief Imam of Ogbomoso)

Sheikh AbdulGaniy Agbotomokere

Sheikh Dr. AbdulHakeem Yayi Akande (JIB)

And several other Grand Muftis, Chairmen, and prominent Sheikhs across Yoruba Land.

Signed on behalf of the League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba Land.
