Minister Tasks Media to Hold Public Officers Accountable on Behalf of Nigerians

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, has called upon the media to play a crucial role in holding public officials accountable on behalf of the Nigerian people. The minister emphasized that the administration’s inaugural ministerial briefings aim to rebuild public trust in the government and amplify its policies.

In his role as the Minister of Information, Idris expressed his commitment to enhancing the government’s image and the reputation of those working within it. He pledged to deploy a dynamic information system to provide citizens and the global community with credible and timely information.

The minister outlined a four-pillar program aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on restoring trust and confidence in the government through proactive and credible communication of policies. He emphasized the determination to engage stakeholders across government, media, private sector, and the international community.

“We are highlighting and amplifying the policies, programs, and achievements of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration, showcasing their positive impact on the lives of the Nigerian people,” stated Idris.

Additionally, the ministry is working on national campaigns for reorienting attitudes, values, and ethics in Nigeria, with the upcoming launch of Nigeria’s new National Values Charter. The charter will outline the rights and responsibilities between the government and citizens, forming the basis for national reorientation campaigns.

Idris also highlighted efforts to modernize and upgrade the Federal Government’s Information and Communications Systems and Personnel for relevance in the 21st century.

Addressing the media, the minister invited them as partners to engage public officers and hold them accountable on behalf of the people, emphasizing the administration’s transparency. “We are creating an enabling environment for all players and stakeholders in the media and information ecosystem through the implementation of favorable policies and incentives.”

The minister stressed the critical importance of the maiden briefing, featuring Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, in line with the administration’s emphasis on the country’s food security.
