OKRIKA, Rivers State — The Nigerian Army has provided free medical services to residents of Okrika Community in Rivers State as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), in a move aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and improving public health access.
The outreach, held on Sunday at Okrika Grammar School in Okrika Local Government Area, delivered a range of healthcare services including medical consultations, dental care, eye examinations, health education and distribution of free drugs to hundreds of beneficiaries.
Commander, Corps of Medical, Brigadier General Innocent A. Enwuchola, said the initiative reflects the Army’s commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people.
“This outreach underscores our dedication to ensuring that communities, especially underserved populations, have access to essential healthcare services,” he said. “We also encourage residents to adopt healthy lifestyles and seek timely medical attention.”
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaib, the Commander, Emanuel A. Mustapha, said the exercise demonstrates the Army’s broader commitment to the well-being of Nigerians.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to the health, security and prosperity of the nation,” he said. “We urge members of the community to continue supporting military operations through credible information sharing.”
As part of the intervention, the Army distributed 10 wheelchairs and 10 crutches to persons with disabilities. Children aged five years and below were also dewormed, while oral hygiene kits including toothbrushes and toothpaste were provided to beneficiaries.
Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, represented by the Director of Communication, Hon. Emmanuel Fiberesima, commended the Nigerian Army for selecting the community for the outreach.
“We appreciate this timely intervention and assure the Nigerian Army of our continued support in promoting peace and national security,” he said.
Similarly, the Principal of Okrika Grammar School, Mr. Kevin Samson Fubara, expressed gratitude for the use of the school as the venue, noting that the initiative had a direct positive impact on the community.
The event attracted Principal Staff Officers from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, community leaders and other stakeholders, reinforcing the Army’s civil-military cooperation efforts across the country.
