The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed several shops and business premises at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex in Ojo over suspected dealings in unregistered cosmetic products.
The agency said the enforcement operation, carried out by its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Cosmetics Division, lasted two days and targeted specified cosmetic products suspected to be circulating without the required registration.
NAFDAC, in a statement posted on its official X handle, said the operation was conducted on August 26 and 27 as part of efforts to remove unregistered cosmetics from the Nigerian market.
According to the agency, the affected premises were sealed and marked with NAFDAC HOLD labels pending further regulatory action.
“The affected premises were locked and placed under NAFDAC HOLD labels pending further regulatory action,” the agency said.
NAFDAC added that samples of the suspected unregistered products were collected for further investigation, while invitation letters were issued to the owners and operators of the affected businesses for interrogation and other regulatory proceedings.
Among the affected premises are Vincentmo World, opposite Bmeck Plaza; Private Plaza; Amazon City of Fragrance, Shops 37 and 38, Beauty Promise Land Plaza; and Aza-King Store Perfumes, opposite Fidelity Bank.
Others include PP2 & Fragrance International Limited – Design Perfumes & Cosmetics; No. D12 Fragrance Doctor Shop, Abia Plaza; and God & Obaino Fragrance Store, opposite Wave Plaza.
The agency said other shops and business premises within the Trade Fair Complex were also affected by the enforcement exercise.
The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, is a major commercial hub where traders deal in a wide range of consumer goods, including cosmetics, fragrances and imported products.
NAFDAC said the latest operation formed part of its ongoing regulatory efforts to ensure that cosmetic products circulating in the Nigerian market meet the required safety and registration standards.
