The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has dismissed reports circulating online about an alleged Auditor-General’s report on the commission, describing the publications as an attempt to blackmail and distract the agency.
NiDCOM, in a statement signed by its management on Saturday, said it remained focused on its mandate and would not allow what it described as efforts to undermine its activities to distract it.
The commission said it was aware of reports concerning an alleged report by the Auditor-General of the Federation and would respond through the appropriate channels if formally contacted by relevant authorities.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports online about an Auditor-General’s report on NiDCOM. This is definitely another attempt to blackmail and distract the Commission,” the statement said.
The commission explained that it would provide all necessary explanations, documents and reports to the appropriate authorities, including relevant committees of the National Assembly and the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, whenever officially requested.
NiDCOM also said it would not engage in public exchanges with organisations or individuals whose activities, according to the commission, were allegedly focused on blackmail and extortion of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, insisting that it remained prepared to answer questions from legally recognised oversight institutions.
“NiDCOM remains open and transparent in all its actions and will answer to the appropriate organisations when so asked,” the statement added.
The commission urged the public to disregard what it described as attempts to distract it from its responsibilities to Nigerians in the diaspora.
